Privacy Policy

Effective date: 18 June 2026

My Traits Lab respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how My Traits Lab collects, uses, stores, protects, and shares information when you use our website, personality trait tests, blog articles, result pages, admin tools, contact links, advertising placements, and related services.

My Traits Lab is designed primarily for educational personality insight and self-reflection. Public visitors can read articles and take personality trait tests without creating a public account. We try to collect only what is reasonably needed to operate, secure, improve, and maintain the service.

1. Who We Are

In this policy, “My Traits Lab,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the My Traits Lab website and the domain mytraitslab.com. “You” means any visitor, test taker, reader, administrator, or other person who uses the site.

If you have questions about privacy or want to exercise your rights, contact us at support@mytraitslab.com.

2. Important Non-Diagnostic Notice

My Traits Lab provides reflective personality trait quizzes and educational content. The site does not provide medical advice, mental health diagnosis, psychological treatment, therapy, counselling, crisis support, employment screening, legal advice, or any other regulated professional service.

Because personality reflection can feel personal, please avoid submitting information that is highly sensitive, unnecessary, or private. If you are experiencing distress, a crisis, or thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, seek immediate help from local emergency services or a qualified professional.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information you provide directly

You may provide information when you contact us, interact with support links, submit admin content, upload media as an authorised administrator, or otherwise communicate with us. This may include your name, email address, message content, uploaded files, alt text, blog content, SEO metadata, and any details you choose to include.

3.2 Personality test answers and result pages

When you take a personality trait test, we store your selected answers, calculated percentage result, result range, related personality type, completion time, and an anonymous result token so that your result page can be displayed. Public test results do not require a public user account.

Result URLs may be shareable if you copy or post them. Anyone who receives the result URL may be able to view that result page. Do not share a result link if you want it to remain private.

3.3 Technical and security information

Like most websites, our server, hosting provider, security tools, and application may process technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, operating system, referral URL, pages visited, date and time of access, error logs, and general usage patterns.

For completed test sessions, the application may store a hashed IP address and hashed user agent. Hashing is used to reduce identifiability while still supporting security, abuse prevention, and aggregate analysis. Hashes are not intended to identify you directly, but they may still be treated as protected information where applicable law requires it.

3.4 Administrator login information

The admin area uses Google OAuth. If you are an authorised administrator, we may process your Google account email address, name, OAuth identifier, session information, login timestamps, and audit logs showing administrative actions. Admin access is restricted to approved email addresses.

3.5 Cookies and similar technologies

We may use cookies, PHP session cookies, local browser storage, or similar technologies for security, admin authentication, CSRF protection, preferences, analytics, and advertising. Public browsing does not require a public account cookie, but your browser or third-party services may still use cookies depending on features enabled on the live site.

3.6 Analytics, advertising, and third-party embeds

The site includes advertising slots and may use analytics or advertising providers in the future. These third parties may collect device identifiers, IP address, cookie identifiers, page views, interactions, approximate location, and browser information according to their own privacy policies. We only intend to use reputable providers, but we do not control every independent processing activity by third-party networks.

4. How We Use Information

We use information for the following purposes:

  • To operate the website, quizzes, blog, result pages, admin dashboard, and related features.
  • To calculate and display personality trait test results.
  • To maintain site security, prevent abuse, detect errors, and protect admin access.
  • To respond to support requests, technical questions, or legal enquiries.
  • To improve content quality, usability, performance, SEO, and user experience.
  • To manage uploaded media, editorial content, writers, ads, categories, and site settings.
  • To comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Use, and protect our rights.
  • To show, measure, or manage advertising and analytics where those features are enabled.

5. Legal Bases for Processing

Where UK GDPR, EU GDPR, or similar data protection laws apply, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Consent: where you choose to contact us, accept optional cookies, or use features that require consent.
  • Contract: where processing is necessary to provide the site features you request, such as generating a quiz result.
  • Legitimate interests: including site security, abuse prevention, service improvement, analytics, editorial management, and maintaining a reliable website.
  • Legal obligation: where we must keep or disclose information to comply with law, regulation, court order, or lawful request.

6. Special Category or Sensitive Information

My Traits Lab does not ask for medical records, diagnosis information, therapy notes, government identification, financial information, religious affiliation, political opinions, or other highly sensitive details. However, personality reflections can sometimes feel sensitive or reveal something personal about your feelings, beliefs, relationships, or behaviour.

Please use the site thoughtfully. Do not enter unnecessary sensitive information into support messages, admin content, uploaded files, or any future form fields. If you voluntarily provide sensitive information, you acknowledge that we may process it only as needed to provide, secure, or respond to the service interaction.

7. How We Share Information

We do not sell your directly provided contact details. We may share or make information available in the following limited situations:

  • Service providers: hosting companies, database services, email providers, security tools, analytics providers, advertising providers, and technical contractors who help operate the site.
  • Google OAuth: for authorised admin login and verification.
  • Advertising and analytics partners: where ad or analytics scripts are enabled, subject to their own policies and settings.
  • Legal and safety reasons: if required by law, court order, government request, security investigation, or to protect rights, safety, property, or the integrity of the site.
  • Business transfers: if the site, domain, assets, or business are transferred, merged, reorganised, or sold, relevant information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
  • Your sharing: if you share a result link, article, or other content publicly, people who receive the link may access it.

8. Cookies

Cookies help the site function securely and consistently. Depending on live configuration, we may use:

  • Essential cookies: needed for admin sessions, CSRF protection, security, and basic site operation.
  • Preference cookies: used to remember optional interface choices if such features are enabled.
  • Analytics cookies: used to understand traffic, performance, and content engagement if analytics tools are enabled.
  • Advertising cookies: used by ad networks to deliver, measure, or personalise ads if advertising scripts are enabled.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent admin login or some security-protected features from working correctly.

9. Data Retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.

  • Public quiz sessions: may be retained to keep result links available, support aggregate insights, and prevent abuse.
  • Server logs and security records: are usually retained for a limited period needed for troubleshooting, security, and hosting operations.
  • Support messages: may be retained while needed to respond and maintain a reasonable record of the request.
  • Admin audit logs: may be retained to protect the integrity of content, uploads, ads, SEO settings, and security decisions.
  • Published editorial content: may remain live until edited, unpublished, archived, or deleted by an authorised administrator.

Where practical, we may anonymise, aggregate, or delete data that is no longer needed.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including prepared database queries, CSRF protection, restricted admin access, secure session practices, upload restrictions, and hashing for selected technical identifiers. No website, hosting environment, database, or internet transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for keeping any admin Google account secure, using strong authentication, and notifying us quickly if you suspect unauthorised access.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent. You may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In the United Kingdom, this may be the Information Commissioner’s Office.

To make a request, email support@mytraitslab.com. We may need enough information to verify your request. Because public quiz results are generally token-based and not connected to a public account, we may be unable to locate a specific anonymous result unless you provide the exact result URL or token.

12. International Visitors and Transfers

My Traits Lab may be accessed from different countries. Hosting, security, analytics, OAuth, advertising, and technical service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we aim to rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections, adequacy decisions, or equivalent mechanisms.

13. Children and Young People

My Traits Lab is not directed to children under 16. If you are under 16, use the site only with guidance from a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

14. Automated Decision-Making

Personality test results are generated automatically from your selected answers. These results are educational, reflective, non-diagnostic, and not intended to produce legal, medical, employment, financial, insurance, educational, or similarly significant decisions about you. Do not use results as a high-stakes assessment tool.

15. Links to Other Websites

Articles or ads may link to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, security, or content of third-party websites. Review their privacy policies before providing information to them.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect site changes, legal requirements, security improvements, or new features. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the site after an update means the updated policy applies to your future use.
